Crave PowerPack 2 50,000 mAh Rechargeable Battery Review

PowerPack 2 Overview

There really isn’t much to external batteries, as they are not a product that has much flash to them. The PowerPack 2 measures in at just over 8 inches in length, 5.4 inches in width, and 1.3 inches in thickness. With a weight of 3lbs 3oz, the PowerPack 2 will definitely add a noticeable load to your carrying method of choice, so that is definitely something to think about if you require this much portable power.

The front and back panels of the battery have a nice satin sheen to their dark-blue metal surfaces. The top and bottom of the battery have plastic endcaps, and a black plastic divider sits between the front and back panels on each side. There are no obvious signs of internal access on the PowerPack 2, and we don’t recommend trying to get into this thing. Messing with LiPo batteries can be very dangerous if you aren’t careful.

One end of the PowerPack 2 is what I consider to be the “business end” of the product. This is where you will find the unit’s power button, four LED charge indicator lights, and USB ports.

The PowerPack 2 is outfitted with two USB Type-C ports, both featuring Power Delivery (PD) technology that supports multiple voltage and amperage output options, as well as Programmable Power Supply (PPS) charging. PPS allows a battery to charge more efficiently, with reduced heat, which increases the lifetime of the battery. The Power Delivery feature allows devices to negotiate with each other to provide the highest amount of voltage they can match at, to better provide fast charging. Port 1 or 2 can be used to charge the PowerPack 2 itself with the included charger, and are capable of providing 60W and 100W of output power, respectively.

The two USB Type-A ports both support multiple voltage and amperage output options, and both support Quick Charge (QC) 3.0. QC is the most popular fast charging standard and is found on many popular phones and mobile devices.

Taking a look at the 45W charger, we have a small, squarish unit with retractable plugs that flip up into the body of the charger. On the front of the charger is single USB Type-C port that supports PD, along with an oval light ring to indicate charging status.

The included USB Type-C to Type-C cable is comedically short, just 12″ in length, and I’ll expand on that in a bit.

The carrying bag is sized just right, but won’t do much to protect the battery. The included charger and cable also fit in the bag with room to spare.
