AMD released their 15.7 WHQL driver suite last week. With it brought some new features for AMD graphics card owners. One of the most interesting is the ability to pair a Radeon 300 series graphics card with a similar spec’d chip from the R9 200 series. When the Fury X and R9 300 launched they had a separate driver from the rest of the card, but now with the unified Catalyst 15.7 WHQL driver you have this new ability.
You can now pair a R9 390 or R9 390X with an R9 290 or R9 290X. You should even be able to pair a R9 380 with a R9 285. 4-way CorssFire with one of each of the cards is even possible! This is not the first time that AMD has allowed cross-generation pairings, the did it with the R9 280 series and the HD 7900 series and the R9 270 series and the HD 7800 series.
