DeepCool Assassin IV CPU Cooler Review

DeepCool Assassin IV Overview

Taking a first look at the Assassin IV it is one of the largest CPU coolers that we’ve taken a look at all year. It has official dimensions of 144 × 147 × 164 mm (L×W×H) and it weighs in at a whopping 1575 grams!

The interesting thing about this cooler is that instead of having a fan on the front we have the first of the two heatsink towers. This design choice allows the Assassin IV to still be a massive cooler, but not cover your memory. The heatsink towers use the same type of matrix fin design that we’ve seen on previous DeepCool coolers. These by themselves are visually appealing so not having a fan in the front does not necessarily take away from the looks of your build.

On the opposite side of the cooler we have our first fan, which is a 120mm FBD fan. The fan clips right on to the back of the cooler and can be adjusted up to make clearance for larger VRM cooling or I/O covers around your CPU socket. As I mentioned the only this fan is pretty much the only thing on this cooler that is not white as the blades and outer frame are grey. The second fan is actually in the center of the cooler. To gain access to it you easily remove the top piece of the cooler (it is held into place by magnets) and then pressing in on the two clips you can pull it out. This second fan is a 140 mm FDB fan. Both fans will spin between 500 and 1700 RPM with a max airflow of 79.1 CFM, max air pressure of 2.44 mmAq, and noise level of 29.3 dBA.

If we look at the side and top of the cooler it has a very cohesive design. This might be the best looking massive air cooler that I’ve ever taken a look at. If you haven’t figured it out yet, the cooler design is as follows: heatsink tower, 140mm fan, heatsink tower, 120mm fan. On the top of the cooler there is a small switch, which will toggle between between performance and quite mode. There is also a small DeepCool logo.

Coming up from the base of the cooler are seven 6mm-thick copper heatpipes. These are painted white to go with the white theme of the cooler. These go up into each heatsink tower in a “U” fashion which is pretty standard when it comes to tower coolers.

The base of the cooler is nickel-plated copper. While we can see some machining marks, it has to be one of the cleanest CPU cooler bases we’ve seen all year!
