EK Water Blocks has announced that their existing EK-FC series water blocks are compatible with the majority of AMD Radeon R9 280X graphics cards that were recently launched. This is because the Radeon R9 280X is based on the same Tahiti XT GPU that was used on the Radeon HD 7970 and HD 7950. So many card manufacturers have simply re-used the existing board design, most commonly known as AMD’s reference design (109-C38637).
As a results many of these new graphics cards can be used with the EK-FC7970 CSQ series water blocks from EK’s portfolio. You can also use the EK Cooling Configurator database to see if the card is supported with one of the current water blocks.
EK has also renamed the existing EK-FC7970 Matrix water block to the EK-FC R9-280X Matrix for your convenience. EK has also stated that they are wokring on a full-cover block for AMD’s Radeon R9 290X flagship card, which is set to release October 15th. The block, the EK-FC R9-290X will be available in all 5 versions and will be available for purchase October 18th.
