Far Cry 7 To Have A Day-One Release On Nintendo Switch 2

According to a reliable Nintendo insider,  Far Cry 7 will launch on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console right from day one. This leaker has also suggested that the Switch 2 will boast a higher RAM capacity compared to the Xbox Series S.

Between 2012 and 2021, Ubisoft launched seven Far Cry titles. However, October 7 will signify the initial instance in over a decade where a two-year period has passed without a fresh installment in the series. Nonetheless, Ubisoft has dropped hints that they have begun the early stages of developing Far Cry 7.

Insider Gaming recently unveiled the initial story and gameplay details of Far Cry 7 through a leak. In response to this revelation, Felipe Lima from Universo Nintendo shared on Twitter that Far Cry 7 is expected to launch simultaneously on the Switch 2 alongside its other intended platforms. However, it’s worth noting that this day-one release on Nintendo’s next-gen console appears to be quite distant, primarily because the game is thought to have entered pre-production only in the latter half of 2023. To put it in perspective, Far Cry 6 took approximately five years to develop, suggesting that its sequel is unlikely to have a significantly shorter development cycle, considering the growing length of AAA game development cycles.

Far Cry 7 isn’t the only high-budget third-party game that Felipe Lima anticipates will be available on Nintendo consoles in the near future. Just this week, the Brazilian journalist uncovered a regulatory classification hinting at a port of Red Dead Redemption 2 for the Switch. However, considering how demanding Rockstar’s popular title is even on more powerful hardware, there’s a possibility that this newly discovered rating might actually pertain to the Switch 2. After all, the recently released port of the original Red Dead Redemption already faces challenges in maintaining a stable 30 frames per second on the Switch, which is towards the lower end of what many gamers consider an acceptable frame rate.

Several previous reports from industry insiders have suggested that the Switch 2 is expected to launch in 2024. Although it’s uncertain if Far Cry 7 will be available on this upcoming system, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that the company has already formulated plans for Nintendo’s next console.

While Ubisoft may have intentions involving Far Cry in their plans, it’s improbable that their long-standing series will be the initial major FPS franchise to make a comeback on Nintendo platforms in the coming years. That distinction is seemingly reserved for Call of Duty, as Microsoft has committed to bringing it to Nintendo consoles over a 10-year span, commencing upon the finalization of its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. This acquisition recently received preliminary approval from the British CMA in late September.
