First ARM-based Apple Silicon chip may come with 12 cores

Apple announced at WWDC 2020 that it will be making the switch from Intel processors to its own Apple SIlicon. Ever since we have gotten several potential details about the chips, and the Mac device models they will ship in. Now, we have a new piece of information about the first Apple Silicon chip expected to debut by the end of 2020. Read on!

Now, we know that Apple’s chips have shown significant performance gains in the past years. This year, they plan on making the jump to 5nm, and that very likely will be the case for the Apple Silicon for Macs. Apparently, the first Apple Silicon chip will have 12 cores, according to a new rumour:

This is still not the complete picture since Apple chips have some performance cores and the rest designated for efficiency. However, older reports have hinted at 8 performance cores and 4 for efficiency. This is the current layout in the Apple A12Z bionic, but we expect a significant performance boost. Additionally, we do not know if Apple will keep these new chips in the A-series, so there could very well be other changes that come with Apple SIlicon.

The first MacBook Pro sporting this chip is expected to debut by the end of 2020, so we aren’t too far from knowing how exactly it will perform.
