G.SKILL Trident Z Royal DDR4-3200 16GB Memory Kit Review

G.SKILL Trident Z Royal Overview
If you are familiar with the Trident Z memory design the Trident Z Royal has the same overall design. The big change is with the heatspreader, which is now a CNC-cut aluminum and polished to perfection. G.SKILL offers these modules in both silver and gold heatspreader designs, as you can see we received the silver version. These look amazing, pictures do not do them justice at all. The silver version is basically chrome as it has a mirror-like finish, which makes these very hard to photograph.

The main side of heatspreaders are pretty much plain except for the Trident Z Royal logo, which is on the far right. The PCB of these modules is of course black. Talking about the PCB it has a custom 10-layer design and each of the memory ICs are hand-screened.

Flipping the modules over there are small stickers on the back that let you know which kit you have. As I mentioned earlier we have the F4-3200C16D-16GTRS kit which is a 16GB (2 x 8GB) kit running at 3200 MHz, with timings of 16-18-18-38 at 1.35v.

Of course the big new thing with these modules is the crystalline light bar at the top, which sits above eight RGB LEDs. It by itself just looks amazing and is unlike anything we’ve seen before.

The light bar stretches across the entire top of each module. It is specifically designed to disperse and refract light from the RGB LEDs which sit below.

Taking a look at the modules from the side we can see just how thick the heatspreaders are, which is very impressive. For those wondering each module is 44 mm (1.73 inch) tall.
