I’m sure if you own or have been in a newer higher-end vehicle you have seen the cool heads-up display that shows you the time, speed and maybe a few other details. This display and built right into the windshield so you can keep your eyes on the road. Well Garmin wants to bring this technology to everyone with their portable Head-up Display for smartphone navigation apps.

Garmin HUD

HUD is a device about the size of a normal GPS unit that sits on the dashboard and will project information onto a transparent film that you apply to your windshield. Since the projected information is on the windshield in the drivers line of sight this should prove to be a lot safer than traditional GPS units.

The unit works in conjunction with Garmin’s StreetPilot and NAVIGON smartphone apps via a Bluetooth connections. We are unsure if the device will work with other smartphone apps.

The HUD will be available sometime this summer with a MSRP of $130.

  1. My sat-nav is built into the top of the dashboard and I can see it without moving my head or attention from the direction of travel.
If you are not a shortie there is no blocking of the field of view either.

Sadly; Nissan (Dualis/Qashqui) chose to make it harder for normal people to see the sat-nav by shifting the later sat-navs down the console out of fast sight; to cater to the few shorties who got a slight amount of blocking of field of view from the 2008 model sat-nav.
    Nissan lose sales.
