Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 Super WindForce OC 8G Graphics Card Review

Final Thoughts
This card is priced at $399.99 at our favorite online retailer, which makes it the same price as NVIDIA’s reference designed card. Gigabyte is providing you some value by offering a non-reference cooling solution and factory overclock for the same price. So it is sort of hard to not give Gigabyte some praise for that right off the bat. There are however many card that sell at the $399.99 price tag so is this one the right choice for you?

So performance first, this card is a great 1080p card if you want to play games on high refresh rate displays. It is a great 1440p card if you are looking to get well over 60 FPS in most AAA titles. 4K gaming is not necessarily recommended for this card, but it definitely can be done if you turn the settings down a bit. You do get a factory overclock with this card, so your boost clock is at 1680 MHz compared to the 1650 MHz of the reference card. This 30 MHz bump is not going to be all that noticeable, but it is still better than running reference. When compared to AMD’s offerings, performance-wise this card sits in between the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT.

Compared to their Gaming OC model, which we took a look at a little while ago, Gigabyte has gone with their dual-fan WindForce 2X cooler rather then the 3-fan WindForce 3X solution. So you have two 100 mm fans that sit on top of a heatsink fin array with two heatpipes. The cooling solution is good, but not as good as their 3X solution. In our testing the it did not cool as well and was noticeably louder. But the fans do turn off when there is low load on the GPU so it is basically silent. While you do get a full backplate on the card, it is plastic rather than metal.

At the end of the day this is another great choice for an RTX 2060 Super from Gigabyte. There own Gaming OC 8G card is only $20 more and gives you better performance (higher factory overclock) and a better cooling solution. So I would say if you have the extra $20 get that card, but if you are on a strict budget or want to put that extra $20 towards better memory or a better SSD then you won’t be disappointed with the RTX 2060 Super WindForce OC 8G from Gigabyte. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 Super WindForce OC 8G Graphics Card an 8.5 out of 10 score.

Pros:
– Factory overclock
– Custom cooling solution
– Same price as reference
– Full-cover backplate

Cons:
– Plastic backplate
– Fan is noticeably loud during load
