Final Thoughts
The RTX 4070 Super is one of the better refreshes we’ve seen in a while. Yes, it is built off the same AD104 silicon that powers the original RTX 4070 and has the same memory configuration, but NVIDIA has enabled more streaming multiprocessors on the card. So instead of 5888 CUDA cores you now have 7168, which is a 21% increase! With that you are going to see a nice uplift in performance over the original RTX 4070.
In our testing we found that the RTX 4070 Super is 14.65% faster at 1440p and 14.24% faster at 4K. For a refresh this is a very nice performance uplift. As I mentioned in the beginning of this review AMD took advantage of the gap between the RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Ti with their Radeon RX 7800 XT. NVIDIA closes that gap here as this card is about 6% faster than the Radeon RX 7800 XT.
In terms of performance at 1440P you should be able to max out the settings in most modern titles and still get well over 100 FPS. You can even enable real-time ray tracing and not take a big performance hit. If you want to play competitive FPS titles at 1080p you can definitely push a high refresh rate monitor too!
Moving up to 4K in our 7 game test suite we saw an average frame rate of 67.33, which means that if you are gaming at 4K you’ll still be able to push over 60 FPS. Of course if you want to get more performance you can obviously turn down you settings, or alternatively you can enable DLSS. DLSS 3.0 is excellent for upscaling and you have to remember that you can also make use of AMD FSR and FSR 2 as they work on any GPU. For DLSS 3.0 we ran the DLSS feature test built into 3DMark. It renders different scenes and without DLSS 3.0 on we rendered a 4K scene with an average FPS of 28.6. Turn DLSS 3.0 on and it renders the same scene at 99.73 FPS! Very impressive!
Gigabyte’s Gaming OC 12G card specifically is a very solid card. It has a great cooling solution that is made up of three cooling fans, two beefy heatsinks, and multiple heatpipes. The fans were a bit louder than other solutions we’ve seen, but nothing out of control. The RBG lighting on the fans is quite cool as it only turns on when the fans spin up and you can’t forget about the full-cover metal backplate.
Right now you can pick this card up at our favorite online retailer for $624.99. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Super Gaming OC 12G Graphics Card a 9 out of 10 score.
