Hollyland Lark Max Wireless Microphone System Review

Hollyland Lark Max Overview

So most of the Lark Max kit can be found in the charging case. Unlike other charging cases we’ve seen from Hollyland, this one is a bit bigger. With official dimensions of 115mm x 46mm x 63mm it is not something that is going to fit in your pocket. On the front there is a Hollyland logo and four white LEDs that will let you know how charged up it is.

Talking about charging it up, there is a USB-C connection on the back. I like that they put the connection here. I always thought the USB-C connection on the bottom of the previous Lark kits was a bad design choice. If you are wondering about power the charging case holds 2800 mAh of power and takes about 2 hours to fully charge.

Opening the case up inside you’ll find the two transmitters as well as the receiver. They each have their own section and make use of pogo-style connectors on the bottom so as soon as you put them in the case they will start charging. Also as soon as you remove the receivers and transmitters they will automatically turn on and pair, which is ideal for run-and-gun situations.

The receiver is larger than others as well with official dimensions of 58mm x 40.83mm x 23.17mm. On the front you’ll find that 1.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, menu button and knob, and a home button. The dial and buttons and made to interact with the screen, which you’ll see in a little bit.

On one side of the receiver is a 3.5mm audio connection for monitoring you audio, and a USB-C connection. On the opposite side there is another 3.5mm audio connection to connect to your camera’s microphone port and a power button.

On the bottom of the receiver is a clip that will allow you to clip the receiver on to a cold shoe on your devices. Finally on the back you have the pogo-style connectors for easy charging in the charging case.

The kit comes with two transmitters (microphones). Picking them up for the first time they are pretty heavy. Hollyland has gone with a MaxTimbre design. This design optimizes voice recording for crisp, clear results. The multilayer acoustic structure effectively eliminates unwanted resonances. It enhances performance with a durable mesh of superior wind-proof and vibration-isolation features. Each of the transmitters prominently features the Hollyland logo on the front.

On the top of the transmitter is actually the microphone part. The microphone is a high-sensitivity omnidirectional 48kHz/24-bit microphone. The transmitters have the same type of clip on them as the receiver, which makes it really easy to attach these to your subject. On top of that they have included a magnet with each transmitter. Having the magnet is really good if you plan on using these microphones on normal t-shirts or other garments that do not have a place to clip the transmitters on to.

On one side of the transmitter is a 3.5mm audio connection for something like a lavalier microphone, a power button, and a pairing / mode button. On the opposite side is a record button for the internal recording. Each transmitter does have 8GB of internal storage, which will give you up to 14 hours of recording time. Finally on the bottom we do have our pogo-style connectors for charging in the charging case, but there is also a USB-C connection so you can charge these even if you don’t have the case with you.
