Hollyland Lark Max Wireless Microphone System Review

Final Thoughts

It has been pretty crazy to see how good these wireless microphone kits have got over the past couple of years. Not only from a quality stand-point, but ease of use as well. Being a full-time content creator I instantly picked up the original Rode Wireless Go microphones when they were released in 2019. These have served me well over the years, but they are definitely going to be replaced by the Lark Max kit.

First off the original Rode Wireless GO kit only came with one microphone and I get two here. The Lark Max can be used with a multitude of different devices, while the Rode only has the 3.5mm audio connection. When using the Rode I have to turn on both the microphone and receiver and wait for them to pair, while the Lark Max turns on instantly and pairs when I take it out of the charging case. And finally charging, with the Rode I have to charge the receiver and microphone separately using two USB-C cables, while I can charge both microphone and receivers using the Lark Max’s charging case. On top of that the charging case has a battery in it so even if I’m not around power I can charge up everything. Now to be fair Rode’s latest Wireless Pro as well as DJI’s Mic kit both have charging cases as well as two microphones and many of the same features you get with the Lark Max.

Some of the things that really stand out for me with the Lark Max are the 1.1-inch touchscreen, Safety Track setting, internal recording, included magnets, and the overall build quality. The 1.1-inch touchscreen allows you to monitor your audio levels, make adjustments, and so much more. Safety track gives you a second audio track for your recording -6bB lower which is great to have. The internal recording is great as a safety measure as well. For someone who’s used these type of microphones on a daily basis the addition of the magnets are so convenient. The charging case, receiver, and both microphones have a great build quality and are definitely heavier than other microphones I’ve used.

I think the if anything I would like some type of physical indication internal recording has started. While there is a little red LED, if you are wearing the microphone it is going to be hard to see. The DJI Mic 2 that came with my Osmo Pocket 3 has a physical vibration when internal recording has started.

Hollyand has made a great case for you to choose the Lark Max over other wireless microphone kits out there. As I said I will be using this microphone kit going forward and I would recommend it to any content creator who wants to up their audio game. Right now you can pick the Lark Max up at our favorite online retailer for $249, which is an excellent price! Overall ThinkComputers gives the Hollyland Lark Max Wireless Microphone Kit a 9 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
