HP SSD EX950 2TB M.2 Solid State Drive Review

HP SSD EX950 Overview

The HP SSD EX950 looks like your typical M.2 2280 drive so it is 80 mm long. Even though this is a high performance drive HP did not put a heatspreader or even a better looking sticker than the boring white one that is on it.

This drive uses a double-sided form factor so you actually have chips on both sides. Taking a look at the back of the drive you can see we have two NAND chips and a DRAM chip. The NAND chips are 64-Layer Micron 3D TLC and the DRAM chip is 512 MB of DDR3. On the two TB version of the drive you have two DRAM chips.

On the main side of the drive if we peel the sticker back a little bit we can reveal the controller. While this controller says HP on it, it is the Silicon Motion SM2262EN. You also have two more NAND chips as well as that second DRAM chip on this side of the drive.
