Intel 750 Series 400GB NVMe Solid State Drive Review

Intel 750 Series Solid State Drive Overview
The Intel 750 Series comes in two different form factors. The first is the one that we received, which is the typical PCI-Express 3.0 add-in card with a x4 connector. You can also get the 750 series in a 2.5-inch form factor that makes use of a U.2 connector and is 15 mm tall compared to 7 mm of most traditional 2.5-inch solid state drives. The U.2 connector will be showing up a lot more on motherboards as we get into the second half of 2016.

The drive itself look pretty solid. The top of the drive is made up of a heatsink / top that is all silver and has the Intel logo on it. It extends the entire length of the card.

Flipping the drive over there is a full metal backplate, this makes for a very solid drive and also helps with cooling.

The drive comes with a full-height PCI-Express bracket installed, but Intel does provide a half-height bracket if you plan on installing this drive in something like a server.

Sadly we could not take the top and bottom of the drive off, but we can tell you what is under the heatsink / cover. You have a an Intel NVMe controller that supports PCI-Express 3.0 x4, Intel 20nm 128Gbit MLC NAND chips, 1024 MB of Micron DDR3 cache, and two Nichicon capacitors that will provide power to the drive in case of an unexpected power loss.
