Intel appears set to release the Core i9-14900KS, its flagship Raptor Lake-S Refresh processor. This KS iteration serves as a Special Edition of the current model, featuring increased clock speeds and TDP.
As per I_Leak_VN, the CPU is currently housed in distributor/retailer warehouses, anticipating the official lifting of the sale embargo. The packaging doesn’t seem notably distinct from the 14900K, but it does bear the labels “14th Gen Core” and “Special Edition,” confirming its identity as the 14900KS.
As previously mentioned, the 14900KS doesn’t constitute a significant upgrade within the KS series, especially when compared to the substantial leap from 12900KS to 13900KS. Core count remains unchanged with 8 P-Cores and 16 E-Cores, and the clock speed sees a modest uptick to 6.2 GHz, merely 200 MHz higher than the 14900K. This clock pertains to the Thermal Velocity Boost technology, an opportunistic boost contingent on the processor’s thermal and power characteristics, along with the cooling setup.
Potential i9-14900KS buyers are likely equipped with robust coolers, given that this premium SKU caters to enthusiasts and overclockers. Regular users might find the original 14900K more suitable, as it still allows for overclocking.
Consistent with previous KS launches, the upcoming SKU is anticipated to be 18 to 25% costlier. As reported by I_Leak_VN, the price in Vietnam stands at approximately $765, reflecting a 30% increase compared to the 14900K. The Core i9-14900KS is anticipated to become available on shelves soon.
