Intel In Talks To Purchase GlobalFoundries for $30 Billion

It appears that Intel is exploring a deal that purchase GlobalFoundries for around $30 billion according to people familiar with the matter. This would be Intel’s largest acquisition to date. Mubadala Investment Co owns GlobalFoundries and it has been reported that the company was planning an initial public offering later this year.

GlobalFoundries holds about 7% of the global foundry market by revenue and has its customers include AMD, Qualcomm, and NVIDIA. Intel already has plans to boost its manufacturing capacity with the IDM 2.0 initiative in which they have committed to building two new fabs in Arizona and will offer manufacturing services to other countries.
