Kingston HyperX Savage 240GB Solid State Drive Review

Final Thoughts
Kingston really impressed us with their high-end HyperX Predator solid state drive and they are following suit with the HyperX Savage. This is the third drive that we have seen use the Phison S10 quad core controlled and it seems to be a great platform. The other two drives that we have tested with this controller were the Corsair Neutron XT and the Patriot Ignite. The controller offers end to end data protection, Smart ECC, Smart Flush and Smart Refresh. You can see why it is the choice of many solid state drive makers.

When it comes to pure performance this drive is on top of all SATA-based drives when it comes to read speed and at the top when it comes to writes. In ATTO Disk Benchmark (which we used as our definitive benchmark for SSDs) the drive scored read and write speeds of 563 MB/s and 536 MB/s write respectively. This is spot on with the advertised speeds of the drive and performance in all of our tests were very good.

Kingston sent us the SSD upgrade kit that has quite a lot of accessories and goodies that comes with it. At the same time you can just get the HyperX Savage as just a standalone drive if you don’t need any of those accessories. The 240GB drive with the SSD upgrade kit is selling for $164.44 at my favorite online retailer, the standalone drive is $147.73.

Kingston does back the drive with a 3-year warranty, much like Patriot does with their Ignite drive. Corsair on the other hand offers a 5-year warranty on their Phison S10-based Neutron XT.

At the end of the day this is a really great drive and holds the quality we expect from Kingston’s HyperX brand. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Kingston HyperX Savage 240GB Solid State Drive a 9 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award.
