Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 4 Review

ThinkPad P14s Gen 4 Overview

Being that this is a ThinkPad, the overall design is pretty bland. The lid will have a matte finish with a ThinkPad logo in one corner and a Lenovo logo in another. The lid is made of PPS plastic. Lenovo will be offering the P41s Gen 4 not only in the black you see here, but also in a Storm Grey color.

Looking at the laptop from the side we can see it is not all that thick, but obviously not the thinnest either. We measured the thickness at 22.8mm. On the left side of the laptop you’ll find an Ethernet port, two Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, USB 3.2 gen 1 Type-A port (always on), and a combination headphone / microphone jack.

Moving over to the opposite side there is an optional smart card reader, a pretty large exhaust for the dedicated graphics, a USB 3.2 gen 1 Type-A port, and a Kensington Nano security slot.

The back edge of the laptop allows us to see the two-hinge design that Lenovo is using. There is also an optional SIM card slot back here.

Opening the laptop up we find the keyboard, which is high quality as we should expect from Lenovo. I would say Lenovo is one of the best when it comes to their laptop keyboard. Being a ThinkPad we have the familiar red TrackPoint in the middle of the keyboard. Below the keyboard we have a nice sized trackpad. Right above the keyboard you will find your speakers as well as a large power button.

When it comes to the display our unit came with a 14-inch 2.8K (2880 x 1800) 60 Hz OLED display. The 2880 x 1800 OLED display is the highest resolution display, but you can also get the P14s Gen 4 with a 1920 x 1200 IPS display. The display is not touchscreen if you were wondering. Right above the display you’ll find your camera and microphone array. The camera is a 5MP unit with an IR sensor for face recognition. This will support Windows Hello. There is also a privacy filter you can slide over.

It is worth noting that you can extend the screen a full 180 degrees, which could be helpful if you are using the laptop on a stand. Flipping the laptop over we find four rubber feet as well as plenty of ventilation.
