Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 4 Review

Final Thoughts

I’ve been using the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 4 as my main laptop for the past few weeks and I’ve really enjoyed it. One of the biggest things I was worried about was how heavy it was going to be compared to my thin and light laptop that is usually my daily driver. Being just under 3lbs it didn’t really add much extra weight or bulk to my backpack and the 100W power adapter is quite small.

The best part of using a laptop like this over something like a more mainstream laptop is the added power you get. First you have the Intel Core i7-1370P vPro processor which handled everything I threw at it from normal every day things like web browsing to more intensive tasks like video editing. On top of that you do get dedicated graphics from NVIDIA’s RTX A500 laptop GPU. Having dedicated graphics takes the load off of your CPU for more GPU-intensive tasks and will speed up things like encoding or rendering. Talking about that it was great to get an OLED display so we have those really rich and vibrant colors. While the A500 is not necessarily made for gaming, it is going to do a lot better than integrated graphics when it comes to gaming, so you could do some light gaming on this machine as well.

Being that this is a ThinkPad laptop we have the great build quality and keyboard. And we cannot forget that ThinkPad laptops meet multiple MIL-SPEC testing standards as well as passing more than 200 Lenovo quality tests. You also have a discrete TPM chip that stores all of your personal data. For this class of laptop it was great to see a dedicated Ethernet port, two USB-A ports, and a full-size HDMI port. So not having to worry about dongles is a big plus. Of course you still get two Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports.

If there is anything bad I can say about this laptop is that there really is not much of an upgrade path. The memory is soldered on so it cannot be upgraded and if you needed more hard drive space you’ll have to rely on external storage as there is only one M.2 slot.

As far as pricing goes the ThinkPad P14s Gen 4 will start at $1281.22 with the unit we took a look at today being $2279. I think that if you are looking for a very powerful laptop that is not some big clunky device that gives you dedicated graphics for more workstation-type workloads this is a solid choice. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 4 a 9 out of 10 score.
