Final Thoughts on the Lexar Play 2280 SE Solid State Drive
This drive is of course specially designed for the PlayStation 5 and if you are using it for that you are going to be quite happy with its performance. First with sequential read and write speeds of 7000 MB/s read and 6000 MB/s write you are going to be very happy with your game load times, especially considering the PlayStation 5 is capped at 6300 MB/s anyways. On top of that you are going to get the integrated heatsink, which does keep the temperatures of the InnoGrit IG5236 controller in check.
Talking about that controller teamed with Longsys 3D TLC NAND we saw great performance in our testing on PC, in many tests exceeding the adverted speeds! On top of that we did not encounter any type of heat issues when testing on PC. The included heatsink is small enough where it is not going to get in the way of your expansion cards. It was also nice that Lexar did include a screwdriver so you could remove the pre-installed heatsink and use it with the M.2 heatsinks on your motherboard.
For PC users I think there are better options out there (especially if you don’t need a heatsink), but if you are a PlayStation 5 user who wants the extra storage this drive should be on your list. I just wish there was an 8TB version. Right now you can pick up the 4TB version that we reviewed here today exclusively on Costo for $224.99. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Lexar Play 2280 SE Solid State Drive a 9 out of 10 score.

Pros:
– Large capacity
– Great performance
– Pre-installed heatsink
– Included screwdriver
– Price
Cons:
– Only available in 4TB
– No non-heatsink version
