MSI Announces the Z170A Krait Gaming 3X Motherboard

Celebrating its 30th anniversary as a motherboard maker, MSI has unveiled a new Z170 motherboard it its Z170A Krait Gaming 3X. The board features the same white and black color design that we’ve seen from the Krait family in the past. So you have a black PCB with white accents throughout.

Built on the ATX form factor the board gets power from both a 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS power connectors. The board has a 7-phase VRM that conditions the CPU and makes use of the company’s high-capacity “Titanium” chokes.

The LGA1151 socket is wired to four DDR4 DIMM slots, which support dual-channel DDR4-3600 memory, two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots. Other expansion includes a third PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot (electrical 3.0 x4) wired to the PCH and four PCI-Express 3.0 x1 slot. For storage you have six SATA 6GB/s ports, a 16 Gb/s SATA Express port, and a 32 Gb/s M.2 slot. Modern connectivity includes two USB 3.1 ports (type-A and type-C) on the rear panel and six USB 3.0 ports.

As far as networking goes you have the Intel I219-V GbE controller. The board also features MSI’s AUdioBoost 3 sound solution which features dual headphones amplifiers, audio-grade capacitors, ground-layer isolation, Nahmic Audio Enhancer, and a 115 dBA SNR CODEC.
