MSI RadiX AXE6600 WiFi 6E Tri-Band Gaming Router Review

Test Methods & Testing

We will be running a few different speeds tests using OpenSpeedTest, which is installed in our Synology NAS on the same network. We will also be using Speedtest.net as a gauge of speeds as well. For our main tests we are going to be using our Z690 test bench which makes use of the ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Hero Motherboard. It has a 2×2 Wi-Fi 6E adapter.

In our tests we will directly comparing against ASUS’s ROG Rapture GT-AX11000. For those wondering I have AT&T Fiber, which offers up to Gig speeds. All of these tests were taken on the “Ai Auto” mode in the router.

Our first test is just a wired test, so we are wired directly into the routers.

As you can see both routers perform basically the same, which is expected from the wired connection. For our next test we will be using OpenSpeedTest installed on our Synology NAS on the same network. We will be testing the 5GHz connection on the ASUS router and comparing it against the 5GHz and 6GHz connection on the MSI router.

As you can see the less congested 6GHz band outperformed the more busy 5GHz band. It is worth noting that the ASUS router did outperform the MSI router in the 5GHz tests though.

For our next set of tests we will be using a laptop to gauge signal strength and performance at different distances and with obstructions in the way. The laptop we are going to be using is the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 which unfortunately does not have a WiFi 6E wireless adapter, just a normal WiFi 6 adapter, so we will not be able to test the 6GHz band in this test.

My apartment is a two bedroom apartment with the living room situated between the two bedrooms. My office is in one bedroom and that is where we have the RadiX AXE6600 set up. Our first test will be in the office ~3 feet from the router. Our second test will be in the living room, through a large thick wall about ~15 feet away from the router. Our third test will be from the bedroom through two thick walls about ~25 feet from the router.
