New AMD Radeon GPUs to Launch with Battlefield 4

I has been widely reported that AMD will launch their next generation “Volcanic Islands” graphics cards in the 4th quarter of 2013. The 4th quarter of 2013 also happens to be when Battlefield 4 will be released, more specifically October 29th. AMD has purchased the rights to the game for marketing purposes, so it makes sense that AMD would launch their new cards right around the same time the game is released.

We do not know that much about the Volcanic Islands except that the flagship card will be called Hawaii as leaked that information about a week ago. This new card should match NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 780 and GTX Titan in performance.

There is also a report that AMD might not keep their same numbering scheme as we are used to seeing. Most people expect the new Volcanic Islands GPUs to be called the Radeon HD 8000 series, but that might not be true. It is rumored that this series would be the Radeon HD 9000 series with the possibility of bringing the Radeon HD 9550 legacy back.

It looks like we will have to wait till the end of October to find out!
