Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black Overview
Obviously the first thing you are going to notice about the NH-D15 chromax.black is its color, it is completely blacked out! So the entire heatsink, all of the heatpipes, and even the fans are all black. Definitely something different from Noctua. You are also going to notice that this is a very large CPU cooler, the official dimensions are 165 x 150 x 161 mm (HxWxD). So you are definitely going to want to make sure this cooler will fit inside your system.
When it comes to fans you have two Noctua NF-A15 HS-PWM fans, chromax.black versions obviously. These have an all black frame, black blades, black vibration dampeners, and even the fan clips holding them in place are black! These fans feature an SSO2 bearing and spin at a max speed of 1500 RPM with a max airflow of 82.51 CFM, and max noise level of 24.6 dBA.
Looking at the cooler from the side we can see that we have a dual-tower design so we have two identical aluminum heatsink towers. There is a cut-out towards the bottom of each tower so you don’t run into any clearance issues with memory or heatsinks around your CPU socket.
We can get a better look at the heatsink from the rear of the cooler. For those wondering you can install the front fan on the rear of the cooler if that better suits your setup. You can also purchase a third fan if you want even more cooling power. Coming up from the base of the cooler are six heatpipes, which go up into each heatsink tower in a “U” fashion.
The heatpipes converge at the base of the cooler, which is really the only part that is not black. Here we have a very nice nickel-plated copper base that has a great finish on it, while not a mirror finish it is one of the better finishes I’ve seen lately.
