NZXT Cryo S Laptop Cooler Review

Setup & Usage

Getting your laptop setup with the Cryo S is pretty simple. Just place your laptop on top, plug in the AC USB cable, then the other USB cable if you want to use the USB hub. Then adjust the fans how you want them. The Cryo S easily fits on any desk or table. I even used it sitting on my lap while I was relaxing on my couch. There is a small green LED that lights up when you power up the Cryo S.

To test the Cryo S I used my Dell XPS M1210 laptop and ran Prime 95 to load up the CPU. To make sure there were no variable fan speeds on the laptop itself it turned the fans inside the laptop all the way up. I tested the laptop without any cooler at all then used the Cryo S, check out the results below.

As you can see the Cryo S did a great job! Improving the idle temperature by 5 degrees and the load temperature by 4 degrees.

Final Thoughts

Just like the predecessor the Cryo S does a great job keeping your laptop nice and cool. So many companies go cheap and OEM when it comes to notebook coolers, it is good to see NZXT use quality materials and good construction on the Cryo S. This is a great follow up to the Cryo LX; while that was a great cooler it was quite big for people that had smaller laptops. The Cryo S fixes that problem being able to support 10-inch to 15-inch laptops. Even though it is smaller NZXT was still able to fit a 2 port USB hub on it and the fans can be adjusted, which is nice.

If you are a gamer that uses a laptop and you want to cool it down I would definitely recommend the Cryo S. It is definitely one of the best notebook coolers out there! Right now you can find the Cryo S online for around $40, which is what you should expect to pay for a quality notebook cooler. Overall ThinkComputers gives the NZXT Cryo S Laptop Cooler a 9 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
