It seems like gaming handhelds are all the rage these days, but over the past few years we’ve seen many people mod actual full-size consoles into mobile gaming handhelds. YouTube channel Restore Technique was able to turn a PlayStation 4 Slim console into a fully functional gaming handheld that is less than 2-inches thick!
This custom build makes use of the latest PS4 Slim model as it uses less power and has a smaller motherboard than previous versions. Restore Technique then took this motherboard added a 7-inch 1080P IPS display and then ingeniously separated a DualShock 4 controller putting the controls on each side of the display. The end result is a mobile gaming handheld that has dimensions of 249 x 156 x 49.2mm and weighs in at 3.74 lbs.
Some other tweaks were made like ditching the consoles optical drive and swapping the standard hard drive for a smaller M.2 SSD. There is only a single USB port and the HDMI port was switched to mini-HDMI to save space. The gaming handheld makes use of a 10,000 mAh battery pack and has a custom fan controller to help with cooling.
Overall this is one of the coolest console to mobile gaming handheld mods that I’ve seen! You can check out the video below!
