Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe Solid State Drive Review

Samsung 980 Pro Overview

The Samsung 980 Pro is your typical M.2 2280 (80mm) drive. It features a black PCB and the main side has a sticker on it, which tells you that you indeed have the 980 Pro, the capacity, and your relevant serial numbers.

Flipping the drive over to the back there is another sticker, which covers a small piece of copper, which will help with keeping the drive cool.

For those wondering about the controller on the drive it of course is Samsung’s own controller. It is known as “Elpis”, but not much more is known about it regarding core count or channel count. The drive also makes use of DRAM for cache, on the 500GB version has a 512MB LPDDR4 chip. As far as NAND goes this drive uses Samsung’s latest V6 V-NAND TLC.
