According to a new report by Reuters, Samsung Display, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics will end production of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels by the end of the year. These will include TN, VA, and IPS panels. This would even include Samsung’s low-cost LED-backlit LCD panels that are used for their monitors and TVs. “We will supply ordered LCDs to our customers by the end of this year without any issues,” the company said in a statement.
Samsung will be focusing on more advanced display panel technologies like AMOLED and OLED. Samsung has two LCD production lines at factories in South Korea and two LCD-only factories in China. With LCD being phased out these production lines will be re-tooled to manufacturer AMOLED and OLED panels.
