SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7x Wireless Gaming Headset Review

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7x Wireless Overview

Taking a first look at the Arctis Nova 7x we can see that it is what I would call a medium-sized gaming headset. It is not a super-light headset, but it is not an overly-large set of cans either. The headset is all black and our version (Nova 7x) has a green headband. The normal Nova 7 has a black headband and the Nova 7p has a blue headband.

Let’s talk about that headband first. The green part is actually a nylon suspension strap which is held into place with pins on each side. You can adjust this suspension strap by moving it up or down on these pins. The strap obviously suspends the actual headset and many people prefer the design instead of a normal cushion design on the actual headband as not as much weight sits on the top of your head.

The headband itself is made of PVD-coated steel and is adjustable as well. The new design of the headset and materials used make it 14% lighter than previous generations.

The earcups do sit on an offset hinge design, which allows them to have a lay-flat design. This is great for packing the headset up or resting the headset on your shoulders when you aren’t using them. The earcups have breathable airWeave memory foam cushions which fully encapsulate your ears.

You’ll find all of your buttons and connections on the earcups themselves. On the right earcup is your power button, Bluetooth pairing button, a dial for adjusting game / chat mix, and on the bottom there is a USB-C connection for charging. The headset does support fast charging, so only 15 minutes on the charger will give you 6 hours of battery life. On the left earcup there is a volume dial, mute button for the microphone, and on the bottom a 3.5 mm connection that you can use the with devices that do not support the USB-C dongle.

On the left earcup is your pull-out microphone, I really like that it completely retracts into the earcup. SteelSeries calls this their ClearCast 2 microphone and it reduces background noise by up to 25dB on any platform.

Each of the earcups have a the SteelSeries logo on them. The cool thing is that these are magetic and can easily be removed. This way you can customize them or SteelSeries sells “Booster Packs” which have a matching suspension strap and earcups.
