Thermaltake The Tower 500 Case Review

A Look Inside

To get inside the system you’ll need to remove the top part of the case like we did on the previous page. Again, you just pull up on it and it pops right off. With this section removed you can remove all three glass panels quite easily.

With the panels removed we can get a closer look at the main compartment. This is going to house your motherboard, graphics card, and has some room for some storage. As far as motherboard support goes this case supports motherboards all the way up to E-ATX and actually has nine expansion slot covers. On the motherboard tray the standoffs are pre-installed and labeled. There are also plenty of cable routing holes, three of the larger ones have rubber inserts installed.

Towards the bottom of the case are two power supply cover sections which will hide most of your cables. There are ventilated, but you can also mount storage on them. Each will support either a single 3.5-inch drive or two 2.5-inch solid state drives. Removing two screws on each you can easily remove them to reveal the bottom of the case. You may notice different mounting holes, these are to mount different pumps or reservoirs.

The back panel of the case is the only one held into place with screws. There are two captive thumbscrews towards the top that lock it into place. With the panel removed we have quite a lot going on. Starting towards the top we have two 120 mm fans and two storage trays. The cool thing is that this entire section can be fully removed from the case so you can install fans or drives. As far as storage support you can install four 2.5-inch SSDs and two 3.5-inch hard drives or if you remove the fans you can install four 3.5-inch drives. The fan mounts also support both 120mm or 140mm fans. Towards the bottom of the case is your power supply mount.
