Thermaltake V3 Black Edition Case Review

Installation
Ok to start of installation I decided to put a normal ATX motherboard inside of here instead of a mATX, which I originally thought I might have. Our system is comprised of an Intel Core i7-965 processor, ATI Radeon 4870 X2 video card, one 320GB Seagate hard drive, Blu-ray drive, and SilverStone Strider Plus 750W power supply. The first thing you are going to want to install is your motherboard. There are already standoffs on the case itself so just install your motherboard and secure it with screws.

Next is our hard drive. It just slides into place and we lock it in with the one included tool-less adapter. Remember if you have more than one hard drive you are going to have to use screws for the rest.

To install your optical drive you are going to have to take off the front of the case. This is easily done by pulling the bottom of the case and the front bezel will come right out. Once the bezel is removed we can easily slide in our Blu-ray drive, and then lock it into place with the tool-less adapter. Once again if you have more than one optical drive you are going to have to use screws to secure the rest of them.

Installing the video card is pretty simple; first you have to remove the PCI slot covers. You will need to remove a bracket on the outside of the case to get to them. Once you remove it take out the PCI slot covers for your video card and then install it. The 4870 X2 is quite a large video card if we had a full array of hard drive I don’t think we would be able to use a large card like this.

Finally it’s time to install the power supply. Since it is modular I connected all of the cables first for easier installation. Before you install your power supply you are probably also going to want to take out a small bracket that is attached to the bottom of the case. Just take out the 2 screws on the bottom of the case and the small bracket will be out of your way. The power supply easily slides into place and just secure it with screws and you are good to go.

Once everything is installed you can see there is surprisingly still a good amount of room inside the case. When you close up the case and power it on it’s almost whisper quiet. The blue LED fan lights up the top and back of the case pretty well.
