There really is not a whole lot to do when testing a display, but we have setup a system that we test all new displays with. We test on movie and video playback, gaming, brightness / contrast, and color reproduction.
Brightness and contrast is something that you always want to look at when you are purchasing a monitor. The basic rule of thumb is you don’t want the display to be too dull, too bright is ok because you can always turn that down. The brightness on the VX2433wm was set all the way up. This was quite bright so I turned it down a bit so things looked a little better. The display is also very sharp.
The color reproduction on this monitor is great. It is one of the better ones we have tested lately. The all black test showed a little bit of backlight bleed towards the bottom of the display, but it is very minimal. I could only notice it during the all black tests, during gaming and movie watching it is not noticeable at all.
Watching TV and movies on the display is very enjoyable. I like how vibrant all of the colors are, they really pop when you are watching a video on the screen. Since you have multiple inputs you could hook up a Blu-ray player to this display.
Gaming on the display was great, you have a 2ms response time so there will be no ghosting or anything like that. I played quite a few games on the display and I had no issues at all. You can also hook up a PS3 or Xbox 360 (HDMI) to this display.
