Western Digital recently has announced a new high performance NVMe drive in their WD Black SN750. This will be their third generation NVMe drive. The first two were just called “WD Black”, which was confusing to some, especially when both products were available at retailers at different prices. So WD has added the “SN750” to this generation. What else is new? Well not all that much, WD is still using the same in-house controller and 64L 3D NAND, but they have refined the firmware. Being that the controller is designed in-house it gives WD the ability to make changes and optimizations. Also we get some new branding, which is really geared towards gamers. With the new firmware optimizations this drive boasts sequential read and write speeds of 3470 MB/s and 3000 MB/s respectively, which makes it one of the fastest drives available! Let’s take a look!
Special thanks to WD for providing us with the WD Black SN750 1TB Solid State Drive to review.
The WD Black SN750 comes in a nice retail package. WD has changed their packaging with this new generation dramatically to appeal to gamers more. On the front we have a picture of the drive and it lets us know that speed as well as the capacity. We have the 1TB version, but the drive is also available in 250GB, 500GB, and 2TB versions.
Flipping over to the back there is another picture of the drive and we can see that the drive makes use of 3D NAND and comes with a 5-year warranty.
Getting everything out of the box we have the WD Black SN750 drive and a small technical support and limited warranty guide.
