ADATA URBAN TAPSAFE Portable Solid State Drive Overview
Taking a first look at the URBAN TAPSAFE it is definitely one of the smallest portable solid state drives that we’ve taken a look at from ADATA. The official dimensions are 68.68 x 36.18 x 19.18 mm / 2.70 x 1.42 x 0.76 inch and it weighs in at just 72.61g / 2.56oz. Being this small means it is going to be quite easy to throw in your pocket, backpack, or laptop bag.
On the main side of the drive we have one of the included decorative cover plates. This one is all black and just says “ADATA SSD” and has a NFC logo letting us know where to tap our phone to unlock the drive.
The decorative cover plate is held into place by magnets so it is easy to remove so you can swap it out for the other one that is included with the drive. This one has more of a gradient design which changes depending on how you are looking at the drive.

Flipping the drive over we find a clip on the back. This is actually designed to go right into a cold-shoe on a camera or similar rig. I love this for using this drive with a camera or even a smartphone recording rig. I do feel ADATA missed the ball on making this clip magnetic. This would have allowed you to “stick” the drive to pretty much anything metal.

One one side of the drive you’ll find a USB-C connection. As a reminder this drive is a USB 3.2 gen 2×2 drive, but of course it is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. On the opposite side of the drive is a small LED. This will let you know when the drive is locked, active, and will show transfer activity.
