Final Thoughts ADATA URBAN TAPSAFE Portable Solid State Drive
I have quite a lot of portable solid state drives and I am always taking them with me on trips. Sadly most of them do not offer much in terms of data protection and the ones that do have some weird clunky app I have to have installed on my PC. With the URBAN TAPSAFE, ADATA changes all of that by using your smartphone to unlock the drive. With newer phones supporting NFC it only makes sense to use your phone to unlock a portable SSD, and since we always have our phones with us you’ll always be able to unlock your drive!
The URBAN TAPSAFE app is really easy to use and I did not run into any issues unlocking the drive via NFC with my iPhone 15 Pro. Another thing that I really like about the app is that you have the ability to add up to 9 different people to the drive, with either writable or read-only access. This means you can have other people be able to access the drive if you give them permission.
The drive itself is nice and small making it very easy to take with you. I like that ADATA designed it with a clip on the back which is made to fit into a cold shoe on a camera or similar rig. This makes the drive perfect as a storage device for content creators. I really wish they would have made that clip magnetic though. Being a USB 3.2 gen 2×2 drive the advertised speeds of the URBAN TAPSAFE are 1900 MB/s for both the read and write and in our testing it performed right up to those specifications.
