It looks like Amazon is close to invading another market. With their massive resources it seemed like only a matter of time before this happened. According to Bloomberg, Amazon is planning on releasing a set-top box. Of course the primary function of this set-top box would be to stream video from Amazon’s own Amazon Video on Demand and Amazon Prime services.
If Amazon does in fact come out with such a device it would put them in direct competition with Boxee, Roku, Apple, Microsoft and Sony. These companies products also allow users to stream content. With its massive library of content Amazon could also get the hand up on companies like Netflix and Hulu as they do not make any type of hardware for their streaming devices. I would expect this set-top box to also run apps from Amazon’s apps store.
