AMD R9 380 Listed in HP’s Back to School PCs

HP has just sent out a press release highlighting their back to school PC systems. This in itself was not all that exciting, but what was, was that the AMD R9 380 was listed as an option with the HP ENVY Phoenix Tower.

Volcanic-Islands

“Powerful and stylish, the HP ENVY Tower is designed for content creators who need high-performance processors and strong graphics capabilities for editing videos and photos. For performance, customers have the choice of up to NVIDIA GTX 980 or AMD Radeon R9 380 discrete graphics”

Right now the product page for the HP Envy Tower is not live so we really can’t see any details on it or the R9 380 graphics card. Most people are speculating that the R9 380 will be a rebrand of either the R9 285, 280 or 280x. The most likely of those would be the R9 285 as AMD has more or less stop optimizing games for “Tahiti”, which the R9 280 and R9 280x are based off of. Also features like FreeSync and XDMA CrossFire cannot be implemented on Tahiti either.

I’m sure as we get closer to Computex more information about the R9 380 will come out, stay tuned!
