AMD has just announced that their Radeon R9 295X2 will be getting a promotional price. Available through specific retailers, and available to everyone not just OEMs the Radeon R9 295X2 will get a price drop down from $1499 to $999.
AMD has said that this promotional price will last “for a while”. Expect to see it at specific retailers very soon and even expect to see custom systems with the R9 295X2 to see a price drop as well.
The Radeon R9 295X2 is based on a pair of 28 mm “Hawaii” GPUs. The Radeon R9 295X2 has a total of 5760 Graphics CoreNext 1.1 stream processors, 352 TMUs, and 128 ROPs. The card has 8 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 512-bit wide memory interface. It is AMD’s fastest and most powerful graphics card ever.
If you were looking at getting the card now is the best time to pick it up!

what about 290x?
290x is still around 500-650 usd depending on model.
Considering the 295x is generally faster than two 290x’s in crossfire, and comes with built-in watercooling… a single 295×2 is a much better deal at 1000 usd than buying two 290x’s for use in crossfire. Meanwhile the 290x is still a viable option for those who want to spend less.
Honestly, I’d say the best graphics card option in the 1000 usd (and above) price range is the 295×2. It’s better and more bang for the buck than anything in the Titan series, and is also a better option than running two high end cards in SLI/crossfire. But at the 600-ish pricepoint, I think a single 780ti is a better buy than a single 290x.
Just be aware the 295×2 is a power hungry beast because it is a dual-GPU card. Just one of these can draw up to 500 watts. So it may require a beefed up power supply. SLI/crossfire builds with 2 cards draw about the same power though.
