When Intel announced their Limited Edition Core i7-8086K processor they also announced a contest giving away 8086 of these processors to lucky winners. Well to spark some controversy AMD is having a contest of their own, offering their Threadripper 1950X HEDT chip in exchange for the Core i7-8086K. They have even put up a dedicated page for this contest.
The page reads…
Our competitor recently kicked off a sweepstakes to celebrate the first 40 years of the x86 processor by giving away 8,086 limited edition processors.
We appreciate the advancements they’ve helped drive with the x86 architecture over the last four decades. But, we’re ready to take it from here. That’s why we’re giving 40 performance-hungry enthusiasts in the U.S. an opportunity to celebrate the next 40 years of high-performance computing by trading in their commemorative processor prize for our CPU that enables you to work, play and create with heavy metal.
That is a very lucrative trade, I mean you are trading a 6-core Intel part for AMD’s flagship 16-core high-end desktop processor, it would be hard to pass up if you actually plan on using the processor.
It did not take that long for Intel to respond as Intel Gaming on twitter replied, “@AMDRyzen, if you wanted an Intel Core i7-8086K processor too, you could have just asked us.”
So what would you do if you won the Core i7-8086K?
