Apple has ambitious plans for its Mac lineup. Although the company has already introduced its base M4 chip with the launch of the OLED iPad Pro, the performance capabilities of the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips are still unknown. It’s anticipated that Apple will refresh its entire Mac lineup next year with upgraded chips, potentially maintaining the same design for the MacBook models. Recently, a well-known analyst provided insights into when users can expect the release of the M4-powered Mac Pro and Mac Studio.

Apple introduced the M4 chip with the OLED iPad Pro, catching many by surprise. The chip, built on TSMC’s 3nm process, offers significant performance improvements, though they’re similar to those of the M3, which is also made on the same technology. It’s unusual that Apple didn’t unveil a new Mac at its WWDC event, as the company has traditionally released upgraded hardware during the summer.

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple plans to upgrade its Macs later this year with the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, likely referring to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. However, the M4 versions of the Mac Pro and Mac Studio are expected to be released next year, possibly during a Spring or Summer event.

It looks like Apple has a busy year ahead as it plans to refresh its entire Mac lineup more quickly than usual. According to Mark Gurman, the M4 MacBook Air is expected to be updated with an M4 chip in the Spring of next year. If Apple follows its usual pattern, the Mac Pro and Mac Studio upgrades may be delayed, potentially launching in the Summer of 2025. This timeline aligns with the company’s WWDC event, anticipated in June, where Apple is expected to announce iOS 19 and other product updates. We might also see new Apple Intelligence features, as the company has so far focused its AI efforts mainly on mobile devices, leaving the Mac lineup somewhat behind.

We’re anticipating a redesign of the Mac Studio and Mac Pro, as these devices have had the same design for quite some time. The report also mentioned that Apple plans to revamp the Mac mini, turning it into a compact yet powerful machine. This transformation could be made possible by the new M4 chip, which offers improved performance and efficiency compared to current models.
