ASRock Z790 Taichi Motherboard Review

Final Thoughts

Being that this is our first Intel Z790 motherboard it was exciting to see what the platform offers and some of the new features you are going to get over the previous generation. Intel’s Z690 platform offered a lot, but the biggest change here is going to be PCI-Express 5.0 support on both your expansion slots as well as your M.2 storage. This really is going to future proof you when Gen5 NVMe storage becomes available, and affordable.

When it comes to ASRock’s Z790 Taichi you are getting a lot. Starting with the VRM you have a 24+1+2 power phase design that makes use of 105A smart power stages, so you have 2520A available for your CPU. This is easily going to handle Intel’s Core i9-13900K, not only at stock, but if you are overclocking as well. The large heatsinks keep your VRM temperatures in check and the fact that one is actively-cooled definitely helps.

As I mentioned with the Intel Z790 platform you are going to get PCI-Express 5.0 on both your expansion slots as well as storage. On top of that that this board is loaded with features. In addition to the Gen5 M.2 slot you are going to get three more Gen4 slots, Thunderbolt 4 / USB4, USB 3.2 gen 2×2, eight SATA ports, 2.5G LAN, and WiFi 6E. I mean there really is not much that this board does not have!

I do however have to point out that unlike their Z590 Taichi and Z690 Taichi, this motherboard does not have the spinning gear. This was such a cool feature and something that would definitely catch the attention of people, so its a bit disappointing that it is not on this board. I do like the RGB lighting ASRock has put on this board. With so many board makers really cutting back on RGB lighting it is good to see a decent amount of RGB.

This board looks great, but it is worth mentioning that ASRock does have Z790 Taichi Carrara which has a really cool sort of marble finish to it. Right now you can pick up the Z790 Taichi at our favorite online retailer for $499.99. Overall ThinkComputers gives the ASRock Z790 Taichi Motherboard a 9 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
