The motherboard market has been kind of dry for a long time as only Intel has released its 500-series chipset for Rocket Lake-S based on the LGA1200 platform. In contrast, AMD has not released any new chipset since August 2020.
It’s been 8 months since the arrival of the mid-range chipset B550, and still, motherboard manufacturers are manufacturing motherboards based on that chip. It remains unclear if AMD will stick to the 500 series until the completion of the AM5 socket or will release an update for X570 and B550 motherboards. The X570 and B550 could be the last AM4 based motherboards, but now ASUS has announced a new AM4 motherboard, the ProArt B550 Creator.
The ProArt B550 Creator is aimed at content creators and professionals. It comes with a Thunderbolt 4 connector. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports (USB Type-C) are provided in ProArt B550 that offer support for 1.2/1.4 video outputs. The ProArt supports AMD Ryzen 5000, 4000G, and 3000 processors.
Moreover, it also features dual 2.5 Gb Ethernet and Realtek ALC1220 audio chipset along with support for up to 5100 Mhz Ram speed, up to 5100 MHz with 4000G series, and up to 4866 MHz with Ryzen 5000/3000.
The ProArt B550 will have a retail price of 299 USD.
