SDRW-08D1S-U Overview
The SDRW-08D1S-U has the slim name for a reason, it’s extremely small. The unit itself is not much larger than the CD or DVD you will be putting inside of it and it is only 21mm thick! The drive has a glossy black design that will make it look great on your desk anywhere. The SDRW-08D1S-U also comes in a white version as well.
On the front of the drive is of course the door that has a large power button on it and activity LED’s. Moving around to the back you just see a single mini USB connection. Notice there is not power connection on the drive, which is because this unit only takes the 5V that your USB cable provides to work properly. That not only saves space on the drive to keep it small it makes less you have to carry with you. I also liked that ASUS did not go with a proprietary USB cable connection, so if you end up losing the cable you can easily get another one for minimal cost.
The bottom of the drive has your typical serial numbers and information. There are also 4 rubber feet that will keep the drive in place while in operation.
You will notice a small piece of rubber on the back that says remove. Once you remove it, it reveals a small space that allows you to install the stand for the drive. To install the stand just slide it into the open space and you are good to go. Once on the stand the drive really has a sleek look to it! Also the bottom of the stand is covered in rubber so this drive isn’t going anywhere when in operation.
