be quiet! Dark Base Pro 901 Case Review

Modularity & More!

One of the more interesting things about this case is that it does have a removable motherboard tray and you can flip it. This allows you to have the case on the left side of your desk, but still show off your hardware. This is also why be quiet! has designed both side panels to come on and off the case the same way as they are interchangeable.

Removing the motherboard tray is quite easy. There are only 4 screws to remove and it simply slides out as it is sort of on a track system. Having a motherboard tray also makes it easier to install something like a CPU cooler out of the case. With the motherboard tray removed you simply flip it and install it on the other side of the case. The cool thing is that the side mount and even the power supply cover can be moved to the other side of the case.

If you did want to make use of a 5.25-inch drive with this case you’ll need to remove the bottom hard drive cage with its two trays. These trays are not lost though. Remember those 5 removable tabs on the side-mount? You can remove each one and mount the hard drive trays there. You can buy more of these trays if you want to add more storage to the case. If you max the case out with trays you can have a total of seven 3.5-inch drives or sixteen 2.5-inch drives!

The side-mount is also made for cooling. You can completely remove the main side mount and add a cooling mount instead, which is included with the case. This cooling mount supports three 120 mm fans or radiators up to 360mm.

Not using the side mount for cooling? You can install a cover for the entire side mount to cut down on noise.
