Cherry MX 10.0N RGB Keyboard Review

Software

While the MX 10.0N RGB does offer on-board control of the lighting effects via the FN key and a few of the Function keys, it is not a premium user experience. Thankfully Cherry knows this and has made sure that this keyboard was compatible with their CHERRY Utility Software application in order to get a bit more granular control of the keyboard’s lighting, as well as a few other settings. Unfortunately, this software is quite limited in design compared to some of the other keyboard software we have used. The Lighting tab provides access to 10 premade lighting options, many of which can be adjusted in one way or another, as well as a custom option for per-key lighting control.

The User Keys tab allows you to set custom functions for nearly every key on the keyboard. These include functions like mapping keys to other keys, recording and assigning macros, inserting pre-selected text, and media player controls.

There is also a KB Setting button that lets you adjust the USB polling rate, as well as the keyboard lighting brightness.

Lighting

With regards to the look of the lighting on the MX 10.0N RGB’s keys, we were fairly impressed. The primary key legends had a nice, full glow to them, as did the sub-legends found on the Function keys and other keys with multiple lines of text. There is a bit of under-glow from the switches that shows up on the black body of the keyboard, but it is not overwhelming, and adds a nice glow to the keyboard.
