Cherry MX Board 6.0 Keyboard Review

Cherry MX Board 6.0 Overview
The MX Board 6.0 is your typical full-size keyboard, so you have a full 104 keys, plus 4 extra keys on there. Being a full-size keyboard you have a full numberpad as well. The keyboard has a silver chassis with all black keys. Picking up the keyboard for the first time it is noticeably heavy, which speaks to the quality of the keyboard. The main chassis is made up of a solid piece of sandblasted aluminum.

As I said this is a typical 104-key keyboard, but there are 4 extra keys. These sit above the numberpad and include a Cherry key (Windows key lock), back, play / pause, and forward. There are also alternative functions on the F1-F9 keys. These include mute, volume down, volume up, lighting down (small increment), lighting up (small increment), lighting down (large increment), lighting up (large increment), and a lighting on / off toggle.

Under each keycap you will find a Cherry MX Red mechanical key switch. The red switches are marketed as a gaming switch as they are very lightweight and have a low actuation force of 45 cN. Each switch is individually backlit with a red LED, except for a few keys which have both red and blue LEDs.

The keyboard comes with a large rubberized wrist rest. The wrist rest is magnetic and attaches to the front of the keyboard quite easily.

Looking at the keyboard from the side we have see how the keys are positioned. The first three rows (front the bottom) are positioned so they angle down, while the last 3 rows are pretty much flat. We’ve seen this same design on many other keyboards and it should make for a very comfortable experience. The keyboard also offers height adjustment via two feet that pop out from the bottom.

Flipping the keyboard we can see six feet that will keep the keyboard in place during even the most intense gaming session. There is also a channel at the top of the keyboard that will allow you to route the connection cable out either side of the keyboard or the front. The connection cable is pretty thick, braided and has a gold-plated USB connector.
