Cooler Master SK621 Low Profile Keyboard Review

Cooler Master SK621 Low Profile Keyboard Overview
Just like the other keyboards in Cooler Master’s SK Series the SK621 is designed to be low-profile and looks beautiful. It has an aluminum top plate, which is barely visible because the keys pretty much extend to the edge of the keyboard, so a very minimalist design.

This is one of the smallest keyboards we’ve ever seen and the smallest keyboard in Cooler Master’s SK Series. It is a 60% keyboard so it lacks a true function row, numberpad, many of the dedicated buttons you would expect on a normal keyboard. On thing that is different about this keyboard compared to other 60% keyboards is that Cooler Master was able to fit the arrow keys in. They were able to do this by making the right shift button much smaller, I really like this tradeoff. Because we are missing the function row and many of the dedicated key they can be accessed by pressing and holding the function key (the one with the Cooler Master logo) and then pressing the button. For example if we press FN+U that will run the Print Screen command.

60% keyboards are very hard to learn, but they offer much better space savings than tenkeyless keyboards and are much easier to travel with as well. And hell they look pretty awesome as well! To give you an idea of just how small this keyboard is, here it is compared to Cooler Master’s own SK630, which is a tenkeyless keyboard.

Cooler Master has redesigned the keycaps on this keyboard to be more contoured. We mentioned in our review of the SK630 that the keycaps were too flat. Cooler Master has added a slight contour to these keycaps, but still not enough on my opinion.

This is a mechanical keyboard and Cooler Master is making us of Cherry MX low-profile switches. Currently Cherry is only offering these in Red and the Speed switch. We have the red ones which are much like the normal Cherry MX Red switches except they have a reduced travel distance (3.2mm) and actuation point.

Looking at the keyboard from the side we can see the low-profile design. All five rows of keys are flat, but the keyboard itself sits at a slight angle. Just like the other keyboards in the SK series this keyboard does not offer any pop-out feet for a more extreme angle. Also on the left side of the keyboard is a small switch that toggles between wired and Bluetooth connectivity.

The only connection on the keyboard is on the top-edge and is a USB-C connection. It is for the included cable, which you can use to charge the keyboard as well as to use the keyboard in wired mode. I love that Cooler Master has gone with USB-C here, it just makes connecting the keyboard so easy.

Flipping the keyboard over there are four smaller rubber feet on the bottom, which will help keep it in place on your desk.

The included USB to USB-C cable is nicely braided and has gold connectors on both sides. It also comes with a velcro cable tie, which is a nice touch.
