A Look Inside
Getting inside the Carbide Series 678C is quite easy. The tempered glass side panel opens just like a door and can actually be lifted completely off the case, which is great for when you are doing your hardware installation. Taking a look inside we have quite a lot of space and the interior is divided into two main sections with a cover separating the bottom and top sections. This case supports not only ATX motherboards, but E-ATX as well. Around where you’ll mount your motherboard there are 10 cable routing holes, with four of them having the rubber inserts.
Towards the front of the case there are four hard drive cages / trays. These can be accessed and removed from the backside of the case which we’ll show you in a little bit. The case actually has room for six of these cages, but as you can see there are only four included. These cages support both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch hard drives.
The bottom of the case is characterized by a large power supply cover the extends almost the entire length of the case. It is slightly cut towards the front of the case to accommodate water cooling radiators.
Taking the opposite side panel off the case the first thing we noticed is that it is lined with sound-dampening material. Looking at the backside of the case we can see how everything else setup.
The two things that really stand out on the backside of the case are the fan controller and SSD mounts. The fan controller is located towards the top-center and has all three of the pre-installed fans already connected. It supports three more fans, so you should be covered if you wanted to add more fans to the case. It has a single 4-pin PWM cable to you connect to a fan header on your motherboard. The SSD mount is plastic, but it supports three 2.5-inch drives.
In the bottom section of the case you’ll find another hard drive cage with two of the 3.5-inch trays installed in it. So with those plus the SSD mounts this case by default can support up to nine hard drives. All of the hard drive trays are accessed from the rear of the case by removing three thumbscrews and sliding them out.
