Doom Classic Gets Raytracing Support Via “Doom: Ray Traced” Mod

Let us hear about an all-time favorite classic that is getting revived with Raytracing via GeForce RTX graphics card. As opposed to the Quake RTX, this mod was released without any official support from NVIDIA or ID Software. It has been designed in such a way that it can only work with the GeForce RTX graphics cards with no possible plans in sight for Radeon or Intel GPUs.

Doom RTX 1

The mod is called the “PrBoom: Ray Traced” and can be downloaded from Github. And like all other games, this downloaded version will not be the full game of course. Those looking for the full game will obviously have to purchase the game and then place the Doom.wad file in the mod directly.

As far as the performance is concerned, the mod seems to be quite resource hungry. When the retracing is enabled, the frame rate automatically drops from 5000 FPS to 239 FPS on an RTX 3090 system. According to the developers, the mod will also extend support for the DLSS as an option.
