Well this is a story that was a complete surprise and out of nowhere. According to Gamers Nexus and an official statement from EVGA themselves, they are cutting ties with NVIDIA and will not be making graphics cards moving forward. This is massive news as one EVGA is NVIDIA’s #1 authorize partner and graphics card sales make up 78% of EVGA’s revenue.
So this means that EVGA will not be releasing upcoming RTX 40 series graphics cards or any graphics cards going forward. When asked if they would switch things up and work with AMD on Radeon graphics cards, or even Intel on Arc cards and there is no plan for any of that. EVGA instead is going to focus on their power supply and motherboard businesses.
Why is EVGA making this decision? Again to myself and many others in the space this just does not make a whole lot of sense. Gamers Nexus has done a great job breaking down EVGA’s decision, here are some of the main highlights.
– They have no basic information or costs of the product they are going to sell until NVIDIA official unveils it to the press
– EVGA feels that NVIDIA is undercutting by offering Founders Edition cards at a lower price
– EVGA feels restrained by NVIDIA
– Not a financial decision, it’s about respect
This is definitely a strong statement from EVGA. So what if you currently have an EVGA graphics card? Should you be worried? Well according to EVGA current customers will be supported by EVGA warranties. EVGA has also withheld inventory so they have cards on hard for replacements.
It will be very interesting to see where EVGA goes from here as a company and their Digital Business. While their power supply and motherboards are quite good, almost anyone you talk to knows them for their graphics cards.
So it appears this is the end of an era for EVGA. The company says they plan to run out of RTX 30 series cards by the end of the year and that is it. Maybe years from now we’ll be reminiscing and remembering that cool EVGA card we once had, much like we’ve done for 3Dfx, DFI, and ABIT.
